John Morrissey B.L.

EXPERIENCE

Born and educated in California, John moved to Ireland after obtaining his bachelor’s degree at the University of California, Santa Barbara. In 1996 he completed a master’s degree in regional and urban planning in Dublin and briefly worked in a Dublin planning consultancy.

In 1997 John enlisted in the US Army and was selected for Officer Candidate School. He was commissioned in the US Army Corps of Engineers in 1998 and served in Korea, Germany, and Kosovo, attaining the rank of captain. While acting company commander, John served as judge in cases involving minor offences committed by his soldiers. This legal experience prompted him to consider a career in the law.

After leaving the Army he joined the King’s Inns, Dublin and studied for the Bar. In 2005 he was admitted to practice as a barrister in Ireland, and in 2006 he was called to the Northern Ireland Bar. Since 2006 John has practiced in both jurisdictions.

John has developed broad experience in the areas of professional negligence, planning law and construction disputes. He has extensive experience in arbitration and has an Arbitration diploma. He has also taught arbitration at King’s Inn. In addition, John has broad experience of all types of civil litigation including employment, landlord-tenant, land law and legal costs disputes.

PERSONAL

John is married with three children and his interests include jogging, baseball, and traveling.
